Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory infection that affects the gastrointestinal tract. Seven out of every 10,000 people suffer from Crohn’s disease. The cause of Crohn’s Disease is unknown, but risk factors include family history of Crohn's disease or Jewish ancestry.
Crohn’s disease causes painful inflammation of gastrointestinal tissue. As a result, the tissue becomes thick, and deep ulcers form. The most common area of inflammation is the ileum, the area where the small intestine joins the large intestine. However, Crohn’s disease can affect any area of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus.
