Complications
Serious complications can develop from untreated gonorrhea. In women, the infection can spread from the cervix to the uterus and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which can cause infertility. Women can also develop abscesses or ectopic pregnancy—pregnancy outside the uterus. Men can contract epididymitis, an inflammation of the testicles that can cause sterility.
