    Diagnosis and Treatment
Doctors treat colon cancer through a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. The two surgical procedures for colon cancer include resection and colostomy. Resection is the surgical removal of the disease part of the colon, and the reattachment of the healthy sections. If the colon needs time to heal, doctors perform a colostomy. A colostomy is a procedure where an opening is cut in the abdominal wall through which waste can leave the body.

Chemotherapy and radiation target cancer cells in the body and many patients undergo them as part of their treatment for colorectal cancer. Your doctor will evaluate the progression of the disease to determine the kind of treatment you require.
