    Diagnosis and Treatment
Although laryngitis improves after a few weeks without specific treatment, several options may ease discomfort. Avoiding speech, first or second-hand smoke, and other inhaled irritants or allergens may help relieve the condition. Additionally, drinking warm fluids, gargling with salt water, and using a cool mist humidifier may also be beneficial. For lasting relief from laryngitis discomfort, the underlying cause, whether viral infection or heartburn, should be addressed.
