    Take Action
If you suspect someone is suffering from shock, call 911 immediately. In the meantime, administer simple first aid techniques to aid the patient.

    • First, check the airway, make sure it is clear; check for breathing; and check for a pulse.
    • Keep the position comfortable, with the head lower than the body, and the legs elevated 12 inches from the ground. Do not move the person if they have suffered an injury and you think it may me a head, neck, or spinal injury.
    • Determine the cause of shock and treat accordingly, by performing first aid for that emergency.
    • Cover with a blanket and keep warm.
    • Do not administer fluids by mouth.

While shock is serious, early first aid can help the patient until emergency care arrives.
