    Take Action
The most effective way to prevent RVF is to minimize contact with mosquitoes and other bloodsucking insects. The WHO recommends:

  • Use mosquito-repellant products with a chemical called DEET
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants to limit skin exposure
  • Remove standing water collections from your environment such as tires and ditches
  • Keep your window and door screens in good repair
  • Sleep under bednets or mosquito netting if you are camping
  • Avoid outdoor activity at peak biting times of mosquitoes especially dawn and dusk
  • Avoid contact with livestock in areas where RVF outbreaks are occurring
  • Many of the mosquitoes capable of transmitting RVF thrive where moisture is abundant. Eliminating or removing things where water can

Personal precautions against insect vectors of disease are important and effective towards the prevention of RVF.
