Symptoms of acute hepatitis include:
- Loss of energy and appetite
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Itchy skin
- Abdominal pain
- Fever
- Tea-colored urine
Additional symptoms can include:
- Jaundice (yellowing of the whites of the eyes and skin)

The early symptoms of chronic hepatitis are usually nonexistent, and doctors usually discover it through a blood screening performed for other reasons. To determine necessary treatment, doctors will perform additional blood tests that reveal how poorly the liver is functioning. The severity of chronic hepatitis is best determined through a liver biopsy. Doctors may need to repeat biopsies to detect changes in your liver and to determine your prognosis and treatment.
