In partial seizures, the electrical bursts are confined to one area of the brain. These can bring about localized tremors, emotional states, or strange sensations. Loss of consciousness sometimes results in meaningless behaviors like nonsensical chatter or wandering from place to place. When consciousness returns, the patient will not remember these behaviors.
Generalized seizures occur when the electrical bursts occur throughout in the brain. They can bring about loss of consciousness, muscle stiffness, twitches or thrashing. Sometimes the person appears to have stopped breathing temporarily.
