Symptoms
The typical clinical picture is a pre-adolescent with complaints of morning headache associated with vomiting, clumsiness of movement or unsteadiness of gait, and squint. A common initial diagnosis is a gastrointestinal disorder that shows only minimal improvement with treatment. As the disease progresses, a rapidly enlarging head and opisthotonic posturing or cerebellar fits with weight loss, mental changes, and irritability become evident. Occasionally, slurred speech, incontinence of urine, and dizziness are noted.
