Symptoms include:
- Cold extremities and face
- Drowsiness
- Cold abdomen
- Shallow, slow breathing
- Mental confusion
- Apathy
- Poor balance
- Jerky body movements
- Slow heartbeat
- Loss of consciousness
- Stiff muscles
Hypothermia is diagnosed based on appearance of the symptoms. Your temperature will need to be taken with a thermometer that reads low temperatures. Symptoms may last from three to 12 hours depending upon the severity of the condition and the amount of time that lapses before treatment is received.
