    Symptoms


    Symptoms

    The symptoms that most obviously indicate hyperprolactinemia in women include:


    • Amenorrhea (menstruation ceasing for more than six months, or failing to start altogether)
    • Galactorrhea (milk secretion from the breasts outside of pregnancy or nursing)

    Women might also experience:


    • Decreased sex drive
    • Infertility
    • Painful intercourse
    • Vaginal dryness
    • Headaches
    • Depression or other mood changes
    • Blurred peripheral vision

    Symptoms reported by men with hyperprolactinemia include:


    • Shrinking of the testicles
    • Impotence
    • Decreased sex drive
    • Infertility
    • Breast enlargement
    • Rarely, men with hyperprolactinemia may lactate (produce milk)
    • Headaches
    • Blurred peripheral vision
    • Depression or other mood changes
