Posted in sci.medWhite Male, Age 29, no known existing major medical problems - average build, composition, etc. , slightly out of shape, VERY high-stress lifestyle. I have never had any problems with headaches, migranes, etc. in my entire life. This past Saturday, 5/12/2001, in the morning, I was engauged in rather intense physical activity with my girlfriend, when at a moment of intense exertion, I was stopped dead in my tracks by a very strong headache. The headache came on all of a sudden, and affected the back of the head, on what is to me the right side of the lower skull; it felt as if it was centered exactly where the neck meets the skull. The headache was VERY strong for about two to five minutes, making me feel as if I were going to loose consciousness. I crouched over into a ball position for the length of the severe headache, which rapidly died down into what I will characterize as a dull-ache type of headache origonating from the same point. Since that time, Ive been surfing the web and newsgroups like crazy, bookmarking every single article I could find on the topic of Exertion Headache, Coital Headache, Exertion Migrane, etc., to the point of where I think I'm generally familiar with the presentation of these headaches and their usual course, as well as their potential confusion with more serious conditions. Its now Tuesday, 5/15/2001, in the afternoon, over 4 days later, and although the headache has died down a *LOT*, (to the point of where I dont feel anything, most of the time), there is still a dull, aching pain which persists from this same point on my skull from time to time during the day, particularly when I move around my head, do anything strenuous, or dont reathe well for a few seconds. Although I understand its ridiculous to expect anyone to provide a diagnosis based on a newgroup post, I ask a few specific questions with hope for answers based on the way this situation is generally known to play out. I suppose the main basis of my concern is that all the articles Ive read about exertional/coital headaches (which seem to be one in the same) suggest that the headache is gone in a few hours, or a day, at the longest, and I'm on day 4, almost day 5, and still feeling it. note - headache has persistently been one sided, origonating from right side of lower skull - where neck meets the skull. First of all, and perhaps most significant, is it a good sign that my headache pain has been relativley minor all along? Since the initial strong headache died down (which only lasted a few minutes), even at its WORST point, the headache has only reached a level of maybe a 3 or a 4 on the 1 to 10 scale, with 1 being the least painful and 10 being the worst. Most of the time, I would rate the pain a 1 on this same scale, and today, its died down to a 0 for most of the day. In other words, if I truly did suffer some type of hemmorage or aneurysm - related rupture, would the pain typically be much more severe, or is it possible to suffer a hemmorage with such low pain? Second of all, any neurological warning signs dont seem to be there at all. To be honest, I do feel a little out of it, and have, for this entire 4 day period, but its nothing tremendously foreign or severe. I have not been vomiting, or dizzy... although this morning I did feel a little bit nauseous when I woke up for about half an hour, and a little anxious -- I have been a relativley nervous, anxious person my entire life.. (the length of this message may help to evidence that, )Third (and last) of all, if the pain completley dies down to 0, the way it has been most of today, is it normal for it to flare back up upon exertion, moving the head, etc.? Are these just migrane symptoms? I seem to be somewhat sensitive to any increase in cranial pressure. Sorry for such a long and detailed message. Yes, I plan to visit my doctor for a full checkup, MRI, etc., and realize that these things are necessary. Its going to take a few more days to get into his office, though, and meanwhile, Id appreciate any input on this topic, as I sit here wondering if its possible I could actually have a hemmorage and every minute I *dont* go to the E.R. (mostly due to respect for their heavy patient-load) I could be suffering permanent brain damage... God knows I need to save every I.Q. point I still have left ... Any replies would be appreciated. Sincere thanks. -Concerned --------== Posted Anonymously via Newsfeeds.Com ==------- Featuring the worlds only Anonymous Usenet Server -----------== http://www.newsfeeds.com ==----------
