I recently was diagosed with this too. i have been dealing with vericose veins pelvic and legs for 18yrs................and im 35! I have been through a series of things. First of all..........very hard to find a well educated doctor to help you............sometimes you have to go to several, too many think this is a "cosmetic" issue and it is far from that!!! I just had a venogram 2 days ago, i have pelvic vericose veins and my ovarian vein......was running downward instead of towards my heart. My dr coiled the vein. I have to have many other procedure's done. This is a very frusterating thing to deal with, only because even if you have surgery and they remove the veins...........the problem is that the blood can re-route itself and this could be an ongoing issue forever!!! I can only hope that this procedure will relieve me of some pain!

Hello Everyone. I am new to this forum so I hope you don't mind me writing. I can really use some help from people who know something about what I am going through. I am 27 years old and I cannot remember a painless period. I have been reading some of the posts in here and can really relate. I have been made to feel for the longest time that I am making symptoms up for attention. I can't even tell you how many jobs I have lost because I don't know what to tell my boss besides "I feel sick". My good days consist of not being able to walk and only go downhill from there. Last year I had a laparoscopy done and was told "you have varicose veins on you uterus. I don't know how to treat this so you need to find someone else." The only other Dr I found was an hour away in the next state and all he did was put me on birth control pill constantly (no period break) and pain pills. It wasn't until I had my Gaul bladder removed and was put on Vicodin that I accidentally found a pain pill that helped. I have been married for two years and no children. Dr's in the past tell me that having children could stop the pain but I don't know. All I hear with this problem is children cause or increase risk. I am very scared about getting pregnant, if I would put my child’s life or my own at risk. Also I cannot stand the BCP anymore. They make me depresses and angry all the time not to mention the physical problems; the pain did lesson but did not go away, migraines dizziness and passing out were constant and the weight gain. I took myself off them in Jan (I lost my Medical Ins and cannot pay for them anymore) and not including that time of the month have been doing better. I don't think I want to go back on them. I am still using Vicodin for the pain and worry that I may become addicted. I hear of other types of treatments but I cannot find a Dr that can help me with this. I also really don't want to start over again. Whenever I meet a new Dr they want to put be back on the pill trial again for 6 months. Will they ever learn that the pills just are not working? I am in lower PA outside of Philadelphia. If you know of a Dr in this area, please let me know. Also, I would like to hear from the woman who had this, your thoughts about children for me. Adoption is definitely an option but I feel strange that my heart as a woman is not into carrying my own baby. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Karen

Hi, I have been reading your posts on here about Pelvic Congestion and would really like to compare notes as I also have this condition. Well I say have, but I was told by my Gyn that since I've had a hysterectomy, I cannot still have this. But I still have the same symptoms. I did get about 50% better though with the hysterectomy, but that wasn't enough to get my life back. This disease/disorder, whatever it is, has totally changed my life. I used to be very active and always busy. But now, my whole life is based around trying to live with this. I work full-time still, but it is tough. I take a LOT of medicine to keep going. (Luckily I have a PCP who believes me when I say I'm in pain and does give me strong enough meds to keep me going so I can make a living.) And on weekends I cannot do much or else I will not be able to make it to work on Monday due to pain and fatigue. I have been dealing with this for 9 years now and it is SO frustrating as it sounds like you are very aware of. It is very lonely to have this because people and most doctors do not understand. I'm glad I found you and the other lady's post on here. And you both have had hysterecomies so I know it is possible to still have Pelvic Congestion after a hysterectomy. Anyway, I would love to communicate with you guys on Pelvic Congestion. My email address is joyce24@bellsouth.net if you'd like to email or I'll be checking back here for replies. I hope you are doing okay these days. Thanks and hope to hear from you. Joyce

sounds good, I will look for personal emails, it has been helpful mentally talking to someone who can actually relate to the exact same problem. I have an appt with the pain clinic on MOnday, I have never been to one so I will have to see how it goes. I will check out your dr, thanks, keep in touch. Dianne

I know what you mean, I have had to switch dr.'s because it was hard to get pain relief. My new dr. just gave a scrpit for 120 vicodone with 3 refills, 360 darvon with 3 refills and 360 ultram with 3 refills. I am taking alot of medication. I am very nervous about taking this amout of meds but it is the only way I can get some quality of life. I had a hysterectomy but the dr. left both overies. I had laperscopic surgery and the doctor found scat tissue, endometerious and inheashions. The doctor I am seeing now is very good. I am wondering if you can take these bad veins out??? I am going to find out more about that. I am going to e-mail you with his name and number, you might want to give him a call. I heard he is one of the best in the country. You may be able to find something if you look him up on the internet.(Dr. Gunzenhauser @ Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New Yor) It is worth a shot, he is very well known! It is a good idea to bring your husband to your appt. I felt for a while that the doctors did not believe me. WhenI brought my husband it seamed like they took me more seriously. Like the crying and depression didnt give them the hint. I have two children too. They are 7 and 5. It is so hard on then sometimes. When my 5 year old son makes a wish he says "I wish mommy didnt have to take medicine anymore". I feel like I am cheeting them and I am being cheeted sometimes.I will e-mail you very soon with the address and phone number of my doctor. It is weird that you mentioned being able to hear the doctors in surgery, I went through the same thing. They even kept me awake one time, it took 6 hours. I remember everything. I have had three embolizations done.Just this past Friday I went in and they found a real bad vein but it was curled around and they couldnt get the cathiter in it to embolize it, but they tried for three hours. I was knocked out for most of it, thank heavens. They went in through my neck. Not fun at all. I will be in touch. I will start using your personal e-mail address because I tend to babble. I hope you dont mind. You dony know how much this helps me! Thank you! Talk to you soon Nickie

I can relate to your pain. I suffer everyday. I had the surgery from Dr Venbrux an interventional radiologist who was very familiar with PC. He stated that my condition was one of the rarest he had seen in his 19 yrs. I had a hysterectomy in June 04 but my gyn dr left my left ovary. The gyn dr said that I had an engorged vein on the left side so he embolized it. Three months later I am in severe pain (since Oct 04)my gyn dr said he couldnt do anything else for me because he already did what he knows. No one in my area of WV has heard of this condition. I found Dr Venbrux on the internet. He told me that the entire left side was so engorged and tangled around my pelvic wall and ovary and went around in a circle and grabbed the right side of the pelvic wall veins pulling them to the left side causing my right side pain. He stated mine should have been done in 2 surgeries but since I had to travel 2 hrs he did it in one surgery and also said it could take up to 6 months before I will feel different. I dont feel different after the embolization. I was awake partially during the procedure and heard them saying more contrast and kept feeling him stuffing something in my leg/groin area. I dont know what to do, my gyn dr doesnt want to deal with giving me pain meds, I am only on hydrocodone and it helps for about 1 hr them stops, he thinks I can take over the counter meds, I am not one to take meds, hate taking pills at all but this condition had gotten me on prozac, xanax, clonopin, zypan(for nausea) and pain meds if I can get my dr to prescribe them. I see him tomorrow and I am going to take my husband with me for support and ask him for a referral to pain management if needed. My leg veins have bulged out tremendously. I work full time and mother of 2 boys 10 and 13, I want my life back and the drs dont understand it. If you get satisfaction with your dr can you let me know? I might need someone else to help. Thanks for listening. I pray for you each night as I do for other people who suffer with this condition. I have an identical twin sister who started going through the same thing in her 20's and think she was just never diagnosed with PC, she now had intersticial cysticitis of the bladder and on SSA disability. I work for SSA and can relate alot to disabled people. Anyway stay in touch and if you want to personally email me instead of posting, DMKane4@aol.com Dianne

Thank you so much for the kind words. It really does help. Did you get any relief with the embolazation? You said that your doctor doesnt know much about this condition? The doctor I am presently seeing is a specialish. He is a raidologist. He is very informative about Pelvic Congestion. I dont know if your doctor has ever heard of him but his name is Jeffery Gunzenhauser, @ Lourde's Hospital, Binghamton N.Y.What are you taking for pain? I am taking Darvon, vicoden, and ultram. That is alot of narcotic medication but I dont have much of a choice. I have been on this type of medication for years. What a way to live? I try not to feel sorry for myself but I just feel so cheated. I know you can relate with how I feel. I am just waiting for a meracle. Do you have a god support system at home? Friends and family can help alot, but I have gotten to the point that I dont feel like anyone wants to hear about it anylonger, so yes it is nice to talk with someone who knows first hand, how hard it can be. Have you had any prior surgeries? What are your doctors telling you about a remody? I was just wondering if maybe we could each other some ideas to pass by our doctors. I know it sounds funny but I have been my own doctor many times and I have taken things into my own hands plenty of time. Please let me know if you or your doctor have any ideas that my be helpful to my situation, and I would be happy to fill you in on the details if you like. Thanks again for your kind words and prayers. I'll be in touch!

I am so sorry to hear that your condition has gotten worse. Try to hang in there and let me know of what they decide to do. My pain feels the same, hurts so bad but no one, drs for one are familiar enough with this condition they just think you want to be a drug addict. I go to my follow up appt Monday with my gyn and see if he can refer me to pain management because the loratab just doesnt help. keep me posted and stay in touch, glad to have a friend to talk to, I think it helps to have someone to discuss what you are going through. My prayers are with you. Dianne

Hi, my appt. was today and they found that the veins found a different path and have ingordged again. They tried to get in and get them embolized but because of the curve of the vein, the cathiter would not reach. Now my doctor is telling me that I have to have surgery, that the only way to reac hthis certain vein is by going in through my belly. I am alittle worried about that but he was certainthat this may be the source of my pain. He is going to talk to my OBGYN and ;et me know how they are going to approach this problem. So PC, the veins can find other paths and still pool blood. I already have many many scars and I am not looking forward to more but I dont feel like I have a choice. I want to be pain free and live a normal life again. Sorry to hear that you are still in pain. Did your doctor sat that this would be normal? Are you taking pain medication for relief? If so what works for you? I take some strong medication and still suffer sometimes.Get well, stay strong, have faith and keep in touch. I will let you know what route they plan on taking with me.

Hi, I am glad to hear that everything went well. Did they embolise the veins? Back to work already, wow good for you. I am supposed to go in on Thursday and have a test(that x-ray where they go in through the neck and inject dye) to show if there is more PC and if there is they are going to embolize them at that time. I am alittle scared because I already had this procedure done buy my doctor said they can return and they may have missed some the first time. Right now I am wondering if I am going to live in pain for the rest of my life. I am also getting tired of feeling sorry for my self. Usally I handel things good, but sometimes I just want to scream. I trust my doctor, he is a very good doctor.I just wish I knew more about this condition. His name is Dr. Gunzenhouser, ever heard of him? He is out of Lourde's Hospital in Binghamton New York. I will be in touch to let you know how my case turns out. I am glad all is well and I hope it stays that way for you! Nickie

Just wanted to let you know that my surgery went through ok. The surgeon said I was a rare case that my left side veins were so tangled and went in a circle to the right side pulling on it causing the pain. He told me it could take up to 6 months for me to see relief. I was upset to hear that. I am back to work and go talk to my regular doctor on Monday to discuss pain management. I hope these dont come back.

I have to go see the radeologist who did my embolizationon Tuesday, and his nurse told me that it is possible that PCS could return prior to the procedure. So we'll see. Again the best of luck with your procedure and I will be awaiting to hear how you did. Remember have faith. Nickie

I have to same problem with my doctors. I very often feel like a fool. I have been on narcotic medication for about 4 years and when its time for more I feel like drug addict, and they are the ones making me feel this way. Its very hard to deal with. It seams as the doctors dont believe me as well. I do wish you all the best of luck, be sure to let me know hot the procedure turns out for you. My next step is to seek medical attention out of the area in which I live and pray for the best. I feel like my life is passing me by and I am not fully able to enjoy it. Good Luck! Nickie

Thanks for the good luck. I am in severe pain and really hope this procedure works. The dr says it helps 70-90% of the women but I have a difficult time with my regular doctors controlling my pain, its like they dont believe me.

Good Luck with the procedure! I am now going in for a second look because my doctor thinks the PC may have come back. The embolization procedure was not that bad. I went home the same day both times. BUT... I still have pain. I hope you have better luck! Nickie

I was reading your situation. I am in severe pain and getting ready to go have the embolization done next week. I have severe pelvic variosities. I am worried that it will come back too. Have you found a solution. This pain is horrible and most doctors dont understand.

I tell you there are doctors out there that arent aware of the pain we go through. My doctor was very helpful and understanding, when he found the endo, pcs and ovarian cysts he said he knew I was having severe pain. Since he did the hysterectomy I have felt to much better, I can get on without all the pain, now it has on been since June 30 and have hormone adjusting but I can deal with that. Of course, I dont know if the hysterectomy is something that is for you, it worked out for me because I already had a tubal done and therefore no more children were in my future. Even though I had the hysterectomy, there is still chances of the pcs so I will try to keep up on that since I have found a great doctor who believes me. Good luck and hope this has helped you.
